Worlds Strongest Coffee?

Bold claim, will have to be put to the test. #coffeeaddict #deathwishcoffee
BOLD CLAIM THAT HAS TO BE PUT TO THE TEST!

Not a photography tip, not related to editing, not even a general tech tip. This blog is just a random post on a substance many photographers need to live.
Coffee.
People have all kinds of ideas what makes a good coffee and how to make just the right coffee, what temperature the water should be, how to grind the beans.. etc. etc. etc… and I’m here to say… That’s great, but this is a photography blog, and I can’t describe the bouquet or aroma of a particular coffee. All I can say is YAY! or nay.

How’d I choose to try Death Wish Coffee? umm hello? It has skull and bones on the package and claims to be the worlds strongest coffee with twice the caffeine of a regular coffee. How could I not?

So now the ultra bean speak, tech review. When you open the bag you get notes of Jasmine, ripe berries and citrus, after brewing you get a sense of the acidty and… no.. none of that… It smells like a strong coffee. What does a strong coffee smell like? Open a bag of Death Wish Coffee… that is what strong coffee smells like. Is it the strongest? mmm, I’m sure I’ve had as strong, so maybe some there are contenders, but it has a great kick without a doubt. I drink more than I should, but one cup when I got home and I could feel the buzz for a good 2.5 hrs. If you are not a coffee or high caffeine drinker, I suspect you may just vibrate into a coma, but that is only speculation. So that is the plus side – STRONG yet a very good tasting cup of coffee. You can skip the morning shower , this will wake you on its own. As an espresso I think it is even better.
The critical side… The beans are a bit oily, so if you have a super-automatic such as a Jura J9 or a Saeco Xelsis Evo, this may not be the best choice for longterm use. Oily beans leave residue that gums up the bean hopper and it’s not easy to clean. So – small batch this sucker- Aeropress, or French press, and make this your lunchtime bang. In other-words it’s really a non issue and one of personal preference.

That said, my preference for our superautomatic is a dry non oily coffee beans. Locally I get our dry beans from transcend coffee. If you are in Edmonton area, I strongly encourage you to give it a try. They have seasonal roasts and the regions the beans come from varies by season, that’s the tricky bit. As a result I almost never remember exactly which blend I prefer. I usually end up getting two random bags with odd names from various regions of the world. Each one does have a distinct flavour but 9/10 times I enjoy it.If you like folgers in your cup, you may not enjoy their prices, but I like their Coffee and don’t mind the premium. In this case the beans are ethically sourced from local farmers, small farms get more money for their beans and produce to a higher quality than your average bulk pre-ground coffee. The selected beans are sent to Edmonton where they are roasted by artisans. More money for the farmers, and more direct employment for local business, win win as far as I’m concerned.

Bit of a ramble, but just wanted to give a shout out to Coffee… I love you.

Thank you to all who have supported me over the years.
